I went on a sport fishing trip out of Miami Beach a couple weeks ago.  Took my son for an 18th birthday trip.  We caught 4 good sized fish.  He put a barracuda in the boat right off the bat, then I landed a dolphin (dorado or mahi mahi - NOT Flipper), then we caught a bunch of little bonita tuna for bait.  We couldn't get the real big ones to bite anything, but on the way back in he landed a big king mackerel (almost 4 feet long) and i got another dolphin.

Was an awful lot of fun - expensive, but he'll only turn 18 once.  :)

roam....i'm sure your son will remember that trip for quite some time....and i'm sure you paid a pretty penny up there at MB....your story brought back fond memories of some time spent on Duck Key (in-laws own a house there...boy do I miss that place....talk about elitist) anyway....... every evening an hour or so prior to sunset I'd go down to the marina and walk the docks. The local captains would be sittin' back having a brew and their catch sittin' in coolers, samples on top and then I'd snatch up some dolphin (usually the same captains because they knew their regulars)....anywho, that experience, many moons ago was my initiation into the delicacy of eating dolphin....my favourite fish of choice for a long time....until one day a captain introduced me to Yellow Tailed Snapper....and then all heck broke loose....I couldn't get enough of it and its so hard to find up north or anywhere other than the keys....peace out.....

we'll both remember it for a long time.  South Beach is a crazy place, worth a visit once.

We'll do another boat trip like that, but probably not out of Miami Beach - a little further north, the rates drop and out of Mexico is CHEAP (in comparision).
