Took my daughter fishing this past weekend on a local pond...nothing like bass and bluegill on the fly!

The rivers here are still raging and our trout opener is this coming weekend. I'm planning an early morning turkey hunt on Saturday and hopefully a trip south to some smaller streams.
The annual trip to Canada is still a few weeks away: pontoon floating the Agawa in Ontario. BIG brookies!

I was out in the garden the other night...found some monster night crawlers.  I'll ship them to anyone who wants them!  ;-)

I don't fish with worms, but if you find a cool bird feather, I'll take it for tying flies or for making feather crafts.

WHAT?  No one fishes with a good old worm any more???

Well...I just so happen to be a feather collector!  :-)

Turkey, duck, goose and pheasant feathers work well for making trout flies.  Almost any feather will do for making crafts.  Sometimes I'll pick up whatever feathers I can find while I'm out hiking.

got turkey and hawk feathers, and will have more come summer camp.  how about morning dove?  hawks are always making kills in our yard.  duck down too, the ducks are always fighting over food here even though there's plenty to go around.

Just about any feather can be used to make trout flies.

That's the kind of streams I like to fish. Small backcountry streams.  I use a 6.5 foot rod to get around the problem of no room to cast.

i have a shorter one than that.  i bought a sweet little ugly stick last summer.  but where i fish,  i still have to side arm cast very very carefully.  everything is so dry everywhere else in SoCal that trees grow very close and thick at streamside.  just finding an open spot is tricky.

dang, now i want to go fishing right now.

I don't think fly rods come much shorter than 6 feet because you need some length to control the line for the backcast.  I've casted my 6.5 foot rod in many tight spots with success.  As long as you have some kind of a lane behind you to let some line out you can make some kind of a cast.

well, i cant think of too many streams i fish where thats a possiblity.  im always struggling through brush to get streamside here.  and my ugly stick is shorter than i am.  im 5 foot five inches.

oh well, im very happy doing what i do.
