Congrats, tenjen!  It sure is a nice payoff for all of the hard work, eh?  I'm sure there will be many more in your near future!

Yesterday was my last class for the semester.  We just had two presentations and should have gotten out really early, but the last one reminded me of the feeling I get when I have to get my teeth drilled.  It was very hard to keep going through that one, so I just started to make my grocery list and my bping list (which I never do) which looked like I was paying attention and taking notes.  The money shot was when I got my paper back and there was a big ole fat A on it.  I'm really trying hard not to hope for an pure A, but it's been hard; I need it to off set the A- I got earlier.  Not trying to be a dipshit, it's just that scholarship monies are hard really competitive nowadays and a 3.9 may not cut it.  I got my fellowship sporting a 4.0 and I feel that I need to be as close to that number as I can get.

A last minute injury to one of my hiking partners postpones our excursion for this weekend until next weekend.  I was really looking forward to going and putting it off another week is gonna suck.  But, I'll get to go to the end of the year party at school.  We're told by our student leadership that we should bring beer with us, which is a true indicator that this party is gonna suck  ;)

Be safe.  This storm rolling through the country is a real bitch.

Well, I tilled, weeded, cut, trimmed and primped the grounds yesterday, and my back is in a frackin` knot.  It's either that or *someone* has their voodoo doll out again.  Either way, I would like to personally thank the dude that invented the hot water bottle:  You rock, my friend.

I've got to get back out there before it starts raining.  My Rose of Sharon's still have some seeds in them I'd like to snag and start up.

My egg and cheese muffin is pimping, the coffee is outstanding.

Life is good.

Another dreary morning arrives with a cold drizzle washing and cleansing the atmosphere. The body wishing it never migrated from the beds' cozy confines. These are the kind of mornings i'd rather pull the covers over my cranium and call it a day. Maybe wake up in time to watch an episode of Springer whilst sipping a hot cup of tea. Where do they find these people? Are they for real?

It's also one of those days whereby you awake in a state of regret and wonderment about what had transpired the previous day. It replays itself in a non-ending loop. I find myself asking why did I say or do that? Almost as if it wasn't you but someone else that temporarily consumed your being. You want to deny its existence. But then once the day moves along, thoughts about how am I going to rectify this or that begin to dance around crazily. A magic eraser like the one Mr Clean sells would be very useful in these situations. Then thoughts of ignorance creep onto the scene with an easy solution; act like nothing ever happened. But then the mind realizes the truth and the loop replays itself. Several scenarios of resolution rehearse themselves presenting various ways out. Which one do I pick? What's the best path and which forks in the road should I choose? After the onslaught of a minor headache, one is eventually choosen but it needs to be implemented. Now how and when will that be......

Good Afternoon!

Well only a couple of hours to go and i'm outta here!

The weekend will be spent in NYC.....yes!

My daughter and I will be riding with 30,000+ other riders in the annual 5 Boro Bike Tour which occurs on Sunday. It starts at Battery Park and then straight up Manhattan through Central Park then over to the Bronx, Astoria Park, etc and then finally, it ends by riding over the Verrazano Bridge (very cool) to a festival at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island. They say its about a 42 mile ride. I've done this before with Stikmon many moons ago but we took the Path into the Trade Centre and then its a short ride to Battery Park. However, at the end of the ride we had to wait 2 hours for a ferry back to Battery Park. This time i'm parking on Staten Island. Since we need to be in Battery Park at the start by 8am, we're staying overnight at a lovely Hampton Inn. More Hilton points....Yeah! We hope to be able to park at the South Beach parking lot on Staten Island and then bike ride to a MTA station or straight to the ferry terminal. The last ferry to leave in order to make the start will be at 715am. I'm hoping to catch a 615am ferry. An early early morning will commence on Sunday. I'm hoping to be exiting the hotel by 5am and then crossing my fingers in hopes of finding an open legal parking spot. Anywho.....that'll pretty much occupy our entire weekend......

Peace out and enjoy whatever and wherever your heart takes you.......

Sipping my morning cup of coffee and listening to Tangerine Dream.....

A few nights ago, last week actually, whilst driving home from gymnastics practice with my daughter, I spotted something moving on the shoulder of the road. We passed it too fast to clearly recognize what the being was, so I said, "i'm turning around". After making a quick u-turn and then retracing the road I had just driven, I slowly came upon the moving object lying on the shoulder. I manuevered the car to side and turned on the flashers. The object was a rabbit. It was lying on its side still alive but not able to escape. I bent down and spoke to him asking "what's the matter?" And immediately my hands were guided to its broken legs. My daughter came over and I told her the news. She quickly went back to the car in tears. I gently picked up the being and set it down in the soft tall grass several yards from the road. I knew it wouldn't make the night. Being a rabbit owner, I couldn't take the leap of faith and break its neck ending its life without misery. I couldn't and didn't want to do it. So, I then prayed and asked God to take the matter into his hands. I had one request. When I get to Heaven, please let me meet up with this rabbit once again. I looked into the eyes of this ordinary rabbit and said, "i'll see you later my friend". I then got up and walked slowly back to the car. I got in, turned the flashers off, pushed in the clutch, put it into 1st gear and drove another 1/2 mile to our home with not a word to be said. The next day, I told my daughter what had transpired and she just smiled and shed a tear.

Damn, that sucks 'loop.

Tragedy seems to be abundant lately.  Early Monday morning, I was still sleeping off a fine Mother's Day dinner, when something woke me up outta the blue.  My eye quickly opened and I saw flashes from a white strobe light on my bedroom ceiling.  Thinking that it would be odd for a rave to be going down outside the Estate, I got up and looked out the window.

Sure as shit, it was the fuzz, but only one car.  The Disco lights were blazing and I looked around to see what idiot the copper pulled over for speeding.  There was no other civilian car.

I quickly moved over to the other window; the one that faces the west side of the 'hood.  Right then, two more coppers quickly showed up and both darted for the house to my west.  In this home resides a great single mother with two girls about my boys ages and a six week-old girl.  She's had some problems with a real son of a bitch, bastard of an ex-boyfriend, but both have moved on and we haven't see hide nor hair of him in almost a year now.  I was really hoping that something didn't go down between the two of them.  Then ....

A copper raced out from the front of the house as soon and the firetruck and ambulance arrived.  He was carrying something small out in front of him; I couldn't make it out, but I knew what it was.  A couple of more coppers showed up and raced into the house, along with her current boyfriend (father of the six week old) and his friend.  They all came out and stood outside the ambulance, all nervous and a shriveling mess.  After about 20 minutes, everybody hopped into their respective vehicles and proceeded to tear off like bats outta Hell.

I couldn't get back to sleep; I was still up when my wife got up for work.  I quickly told her a Reader's Digest version of what happened.  I finally fell asleep watching my favorite morning show (Morning Joe) and quickly drempt that I was working for Pat Buchanan.  The phone rang, which woke me up.  Our phone only rings in the morning if there is something a happenin`.  It was my wife on the other end.

She wasn't sounding right, so I knew something was amiss.  She quickly apologized for waking me, but she had something to tell me that she just keep any longer.  She had talked with our neighbor next door in the driveway before my wife hopped in her car.  Apparently, our neighbor fell asleep with her six-week old on top of her.  She then woke up to find the child under her, smothered and unresponsive.  The rest, well y'all already know the end.

Saying "it's too bad" is the understatement of the decade.  The parade of family and friends at her house yesterday was heartbreaking to say the least.  Today, there is nothing but a cold, hard rain and no visitors.  I haven't seen her at all today; who knows if she even spent the night there last night -- I know I couldn't if that happened to us.

Since our kids play together every day, I wondered what and how we were going to tell our kids what happened.  My wife blazed a fantastic trail and conveyed the news without having to tell them how it happened.

Other than that, everything's been great around the Estate.  We're gearing up the Outpost for a Summer of fun in the sun.  Both #2 and I B-days are coming up soon, I've got field school on the horizon and a full Honey-Do list.  Looking forward to hitting the trail again soon.  I was out two weekends ago, tweaked my left ankle and subsequently re-injured it last week Tuesday.  It hurt pretty good and swelled up huge like always, so I was hobbling around like a peg-legged pirate all last week.  We had a good time, even with the 80* sunny days and 40* nights with severe thunderstorms both nights.  I got wet and messy, and re-learned some trail stuff.  I was hoping to get out last weekend for some 'shrooming, but may ankle put that whole thing for me in question.  As it turns out, the place we were all going to was about to get pounded with 3-5 inches of snow over the weekend, so the trip got canceled.  Gotta love Michigan weather!

Ciao, Bella!

"Dang Q, that's some powerful stuff man....not even sure how one would even deal with that sort of inner pain..."

You're not kidding.  Just the thought of working with Pat Buchanan sends shivers down my spine.

lol.

Sorry, I try humor, not to marginalize, perhaps to help me keep things in perspective; perhaps I'm numb a little.  No, that's not it come to think of it, I compartmentalize it -- that's it.  Death and I have crossed paths many, many times over the last 20 years; sometimes it's won, sometimes I've gotten the better end of it.

Anyhoo, we had our first practice with the old ball club tonight.  I am extremely happy with the squad, it seems as though I hit a big on talent in the draft.  And they are very nice group of kids; very considerate, kind and eager to help.  Gives me hope for the future.

Off to watch the Tigs hopefully sweep those damn Yankees.  Hate the Yankees.
