My step son (who works at  a bike shop) did a great tune up on my old Cannondale Road bike (bought used about 12 years ago, but still a nice ride) and I'm organizing a trip for Friday (27 miles of biking - mostly paved trail, some unpaved, with a 3 mile hike in the middle) using my mountain bike.

I have been getting out on the bike a lot, but mostly to get to places I need to go.  This will be the first meaningful ride just for the sake of a good ride,

I can tell the winter's been too long...my butt is still a tad sore from the 14 mile jaunt I did Sunday around Seattle.  Queen Anne to Ballard, then to Golden Gardens, back across the Locks, to Discovery park, into Magnolia, then home. The hills were killing me, but it was good to get out.

Kleet, have you tried  the cheapo gel seat covers?  I use one on my road bike it does make it more comfortable even if if you lose cred with the heavies

Had this been a different forum, I would have a more amusing (to me, at least) reply. BTW did you notice the somewhat disguised bot applied spam above your post?

Oh, so you know it was guy?  Friend of yours?

J/k --- Now I hadn't noticed.  I just skim the posts and generally don't think about them unless something catches my attention

Pedx,

I haven't tried the gel seat covers, but I'm thinking it's worth a shot.  The person I did the ride with had one and she didn't report any discomfort the next day.

I did notice the spam post - at least they tried to make it look like an actual thread reply.

I just bought my wife a 1963 Schwinn American last weekend.  It's in pretty good condition and the place I bought it deals in old bikes and gave me a good deal on it.

Cool. I love bikes and riding. Competing with car sucks.

Yup.  And in some shadow world, I heard you were "dusted off the bike" by a car yesterday. I hope there is no injury beyond the bruising.

Can't be sure yet. The rotator cuff is bruised bad enough to be unresponsive. Think good thoughts.

Gel seat covers. what's the weight on one of those? it's just like backpacking: light.

I don't like those gel seats.  I left my bike on the side of the house in the sun and the damn seat "exploded".
