After a few months of being idle, I finally was able to ride this morning. I am not a person to exercise first thing in the morning. But all week long I was motivated to ride. I gave up my Saturday morning sleep in to go for a ride at 7 AM.

The thing that I hate most about doing a first-day-back type of ride, is that you know it is going to hurt. For me, it usually isn't my muscles, it's my lungs. After just a few miles I was thinking that I would never get back into good riding shape because my lungs had gotten so bad. But a few miles later, my body was over that initial warm up and I felt really good.

Next weekend is already out for me because of scheduling, but I really need to get back in a routine.

The first rides always make my butt sore, so I keep the mileage low for a few rides...

One thing that helped me feel comfortable on the bike this spring was riding an indoor trainer in the winter.  I know it's very boring, but you don't need to stay on trainer that long to get prepared.  I rode a few times per week and stayed on for between 30 and 40 minutes each time.

Woooo Hoooo...I got a bike!!!!!

Nothin fancy....nothin expensive.....( cause it will probably be stolen in less than a year....)
..a Highland by Huffy...and a new seat just for women, a speedometer, bottle cage, & a handlebar bag...wooo hoooo!!!
...now lets talk bike racks.....
...any suggestions???...
..I don't think I could reach racks for my Yakima rack...& they are expensive...
...& lets talk how to secure it....
any suggestions about locks????
...it looks like all they would have to do is cut the straps on a trunk bike rack....
...any helmet suggestions???
...anyway, this is the first bike I have rode in over 15 years....( I used to have a Puegeot(sp?) and rode alot...even in 50 mile events...) last time I rode I ran over a 5 yr old...he was fine...( he stopped in front of me) bloodied my elbows & knees...had to limp home & pick out stones...so I was a little scared to get on again...

Good deal divinity!

I have a "Mo Jo" Rack, I think, by Yakima.  It is one of those with the straps etc that attach to the rear of the Subaru. Very flexible, can go on all kinds of trunks/hatches.  REI has them, if you want to shop around.   If you have a trailer receiver hitch, racks for those are slick.

I went for a mountain bike ride this morning.  My first ride since early May.  Chemo side effects kept me off the bike for that amount of time, but I didn't do to bad on the bike.  I rode an hour and 42 minutes and I can tell I'm out of shape, but I'll get there.  It's great to be out riding again.

Thanks, I had plans to go road riding this weekend, but I started getting an on and off, low grade fever.  My doctor put me back on the antibiotic and did some blood cultures today.  It's unlikely I'll get out and ride this weekend now so I'm disappointed, but I'll get back out there once I get this infection eradicated.  Bike riding has to be one the best medicines mentally.  Feels great being out there.

My step son (who works at  a bike shop) did a great tune up on my old Cannondale Road bike (bought used about 12 years ago, but still a nice ride) and I'm organizing a trip for Friday (27 miles of biking - mostly paved trail, some unpaved, with a 3 mile hike in the middle) using my mountain bike.

I have been getting out on the bike a lot, but mostly to get to places I need to go.  This will be the first meaningful ride just for the sake of a good ride,

I can tell the winter's been too long...my butt is still a tad sore from the 14 mile jaunt I did Sunday around Seattle.  Queen Anne to Ballard, then to Golden Gardens, back across the Locks, to Discovery park, into Magnolia, then home. The hills were killing me, but it was good to get out.

Kleet, have you tried  the cheapo gel seat covers?  I use one on my road bike it does make it more comfortable even if if you lose cred with the heavies

Had this been a different forum, I would have a more amusing (to me, at least) reply. BTW did you notice the somewhat disguised bot applied spam above your post?
