The most exciting thing I see people planning is the Alaska Trip.  For me, there is nothing as exciting.  I've got a bunch of day hikes in store and at least one short backpacking trip planned.  The biggest thing I'll be doing is hiking the Long Trail in August.  I've got about 3 weeks to do it and should be able to finish if I can avoid injuries or other big problems.

Mostly non - hiking:   Going to Hawaii with family to scatter my favorite aunt's ashes and enjoy the Island she fell in love many years ago.  She went there to work after the Pearl Harbor attack and was involved in rebuilding and new building of bases - she worked for the Marines on Oahu as a civilian personal officer.  She moved up the civilian ranks rapidly late in her career as a beneficiary of affirmative action - she was one of the few experienced and qualified women they had in the '70s.   Will try to get into the mountains for a good day hike.

Hunting, untill this season is over, then more training, hiking, scouting. Then more scouting, hiking and hunting. All of this will be when I am not working.

Just came off of the North Country trail after 3 days in order to watch my daughters softball games. Then hopefully back to the trail for 4-5 more days. Rest of summer will be hiking and fishing when time allows

Thanks Pamma.  The trip went well.  Among my aunt's things was a letter she had written after her first trip around the Island (Oahu) she was falling in love with the place.  She said she had never felt so alive.  My wife and I retraced part of her trip.  Hawaii was definitely my aunt's longest and happiest love affair.

Since I got back, I have been day hiking once or twice a week and got in one weekend of backpacking.  I'll head out July 30th to hike the Long Trail - should be gone about 3 weeks.  I'm looking forward to it.   Monday I hike part of a Long Trail relay hike 22.6 miles and 4K feet of elevation gain.  I've gotten attached to the LT - not the way my aunt fell in love with Hawaii but a strong attachment none the less.

Its been so hot and humid in the South that the hike from the front door to the vehicle is taxing

Summer course, then to Isle Royale for a week, then the real hiking season starts.

Thinking about getting a new digital camera (something that will withstand the abuse) - and will have to buy my food.  Everything else is ready.  Thanks.
