Years ago I thought of getting a travel trailer and just traveling around, but part of me likes roots too.

If you participate in 'social networking' or 'social media' [geez, how I hate those terms!], it seems like you can take a some of those 'roots' with you, these days. you may not be able to hug 'em, but you can skype 'em...

I may become a snowbird when I get older, just go home when the snow melts.  When I get too decrepit, I'll sell my place and become more mobile or into a home.

Karen and Jerry said the WV people were all very nice and they just crossed the Ohio River the last day or so.  They have met many nice folks along the trail, like seeing your neighbors on a morning stroll.

Great thread,  I'm in general agreement with:  "They are literally livin' the dream. That is exactly what I want to be doin' in my retirement. That is, if I ever GET to retire, and have enough money to just vagabond around like that....just think of it, hikin all day in peace and quiet*"

Also in same category as HikerDuane, I plan on hoping to work for the next 10 - 15 years! :)  Also want to continue backpacking for the next 25-30 years! :)  (I'm only a young 59 right now!)

Following Karen and Jerry's adventures, they had to spring for a new tent, the repair to the broken pole wasn't any good so they bought a new MSR Hubba Hubba.  They are taking their leisure, staying in cabins/motels when the opportunity presents itself, not a go fast trip for them, just the way they planned it.  Nice to be retired.

I've been checking out Karen and Jerry's photos a few times a week.  After reading all the kind things done by trail angels and other folks for them, gives me hope that not all of America has gone to pot.  A lot of nice folks back in OH, KY, IN.
