I've been outside and/or in a big tent this weekend, at the koi show. This is the first time I've organized for, worked at and showed fish at a koi show. I got a few awards for one of my fish so that was nice until I found out they fudged the variety so I could even get an award. They really liked the fish, but under the ginrin hi utsuri (think metallic glitter sprinkled over the scales) it sucked, so they called it a hikari hi utsuri (general metallic red koi with heavy black marks) and gave gave me the award. I'm disappointed, but I got to know the judges a bit and i like them very much. Two of them are husband/ wife, and live in the old part of Charleston, SC. They have a mansion and keep chickens on their front porch and she plays mandolin as well. :D The third judge is from Canada originally (near London) and has lived in Tenn. for twenty odd years. The Canadian/ Tenn. accent is something to behold. I made a lot of new friends this weekend. As frustrating and exhausting as this was, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Of course I didn't intend to get fish, but I found 2 varieties that are very difficult to find that I've wanted for a long time (they're each around 4" long. In 2 years they'll be 24 inches) and Laurel (God help me) charmed 1 koi and 2 goldfish out of vendors there, that she DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR. Damn cuteness factor. I'm glad to be home. HPM is about comatose, Laurel is eating one of the many sandwiches we brought home from the event and I'm ready to drop dead for a the night.

The closest thing to a fish sandwich at this show were the tuna salad sandwiches a club member brought for the hospitality food stash. We provided sodas, water, coffee, tea, and after 4:30 beer for the vendors and club members. We had 7 varieties of sandwiches, cookies, donuts and muffins, Halloween candy, homemade pumpkin bread (god that was good stuff) and a lot of other goodies. I provided the coffee, among other things. The coffee hounds couldn't get enough; the weaker ones all said it was "too strong." The funniest part was I made the coffee weaker than how I make it at home. It's just folger's breakfast blend light roast, for crying out loud! I brought teabags for tea drinkers. Glad I did too, because one of the show judges is a tea drinker. Brownie points there.

Forget it, you're not going to win the smiting championship. Nimblefoot and MarkO already took that a long time ago.

It's virtually impossible to be around here and not get smited, but show me your boobs and I will tell you what your chances are.

Where the heck have I been? In the dentist's chair again, getting a new crown installed. They said to give it a couple of days, but I know I'll be back for an adjustment.  I also had a first happen there; anyone here familiar with the sintered abrasive bits used for polishing teeth and crowns? I had one explode in my mouth this morning. It hurt, but it didn't bother me as much as some of the other stuff going on. I do have a nice fat lip from the inside now, though.  Still, everything could have been much worse. This was all done without injections too, since I metabolize the dang stuff so fast.

Time to go for a nice walk on the rain, and enjoy this drizzly day.
