That is not a true and correct statement, but does contain some facts within.
lol! http://money.cnn.com/2010/08/06/technology/demand_media_ipo/index.htm Thats not a true statement. But it is a statement that does have some truths within.

"Demand Media's business model is to churn out vast amounts of low-cost content optimized to grab search-engine-driven clicks and advertising dollars."

"But Demand Media also has tentacles extending beyond its core content business, including an Internet registry business that is the world's second largest and manages 10 million domain names. Almost half of the company's revenue comes from that line of work."

Too bad the Moderation Staff is providing free labor for that "low-cost content".  Perhaps with the IPO, Demand will now pay their "H.M.F.I.C" for all of their work, or at least be able to provide those Moderators who are trying to do their job with the necessary resources to be successful.

So, do you all get it now?  Look through the article; it should be sobering to those Moderating and those who still post there.  TT lost it's innocence along time ago; now you all should be able to see that it also lost its integrity.

All those involved with TT are nothing but unpaid content generators; everything ... the trips page, the "conversations", the gear sales, ... everything.  That means all of your pictures of your family, all of the images of yourself (and others) uploaded to TT (both on the threads and on the picture area), all of the gear reviews, all of the trip reports, everything.  You're all UNPAID workers for a big company that takes your stuff and sells it to other companies.  Everything you post, type, upload is there's for the taking.  They can/will exploit your image, your material; track your web movements, and sell that information, too.

Don't believe me, look through the T.O.S.  As part of your agreement with them to post on their "site", you give them permission to use everything of yours on TT, regardless of what and when you contributed, royalty free.  You have given them free use.

Now here's the little hicup.  Any one who uploads/posts an image represents/agrees, per the TOS, that they own the rights to that image and have cleared use of the image.  If Chili uploads a picture that includes me in it to TT, and I go after Demand for Copyright infringement; per the TOS, Chili is liable, not Demand.  lol.  So, I have to sue Chili and not Demand for relief.  Sadly, Chili owns the picture, but not the image rights of persons in the picture.

Some folks were not able to acknowledge or understand where I was coming from.  Now it's all before you plain and simple.

Good luck, everyone!

Nobody knows who "troll hunter" is but he has a "friend network"?  The internet is truly an amazing place.

Isn't the only thing wrong with any forum is the people who use them. Be nice, be helpfull. And offer good advice.

I've liquidated all of my investments and moved everything into Demand Media.  It's gotta be a winner!

Q, I haven't read the article, but based on your comments, what makes TT any different from Facebook or MySpace?  They also can use anything you post in their advertisments etc..so whats the big deal??  No need to bash TT or condemn it to hell because Demand is taking advantage of the minions that post on the site...

I often change my avatar on the boards I frequent.  I can change it back if ya like.  I might go with this one...

"Q, I haven't read the article, but based on your comments, what makes TT any different from Facebook or MySpace? "

That's precisely the issue; presently, there is very little difference.
