Missed this.  Dan, I've been thinking about taking the wilderness first responder training - I think I'd like to follow your syllabus.

Okay over here is the $600 course that gives you certification. Over here we have our course which costs $2000 and really you won't get certification but you DO get to practice winter survival with two HOOTERS girls.

Oh if you do want to take the course may I recommend Landmark Learning in North Carolina. By far some of the best training in the world.

32oz if I was going to fly out West for a backpack, that might be my econd choice after the JMT.

Dan - If I were to do WFR, I'd probably just take the SOLO course in New Hampshire (the same program AmyG went to for her Wilderness EMT)

Ped I agree, however I will more then likely be flying into Seattle for the Glacier Trip so I'll do that this time through...

The JMT will have to wait...

I tell Grace all my hiking stories before she goes to bed every night and last night she says, can I go hiking with you daddy?  Game on baby!  Probably wait for spring as it may be a bit cold for her now.

I'll be exploring the Sierra Nevada next year. Top of the list is buying a bear cannister and doing a week loop in Sequoia NP. I'll get to the whole JMT one of these days.

In the mean time, there are a lot of options for backpacking in the winter without so much FYAO here in Central CA.

I want to do Olympic next August..............daydreaming.

Ped, perhaps I could join you for a stretch of several days.

If Olympic happens it will be 'round about weeks two and three of August.
