Road Biking
To most people, road biking is about “10 speed” bikes and the Tour de France. While these statements are true, the road biking world is much more than that. For starters, most bikes have way more than 10 speeds now. And while there are professional bike races like the Tour de France or the Tour of California, the world of recreational biking is where most people fit.
Century and Metric Century Rides
For non-racing bikers, many people enjoy large, organized group rides. A Century Ride is a 100 mile ride, thus the “century”. A Metric Century ride is 100 kilometers, or about 63 miles. Most organized centuries offer rest stops along the route to provide the riders with snacks and fluids. SAG (Support and Gear) vehicles often drive along the route providing assistance with broken down bikes or giving struggling riders a lift.
