Established in 2003, the Tour De Georgia is a 6 day, 600 mile stage cycling race. Along with the Tour of California, the Tour de Georgia is the highest rated professional cycling race in North America. As with the Tour de France, there are different leader categories in the race. The sprints leader wears a gray and aqua-blue jersey, the king of the mountains wears a Georgia inspired peach jersey, the best young rider wears a green jersey, and the overall leader wears a yellow jersey.
Each year, the tour winds through the state with different stage locations. The tour always includes the climb up Brasstown Bald, the highest point in Georgia.
The Tour de Georgia is growing in reputation each year. International teams such as Discovery, CSC and Quick Step participate in the tour along with many other US based teams.
The Georgia Partnership for Economic Development, GPED, owns and operates the Tour de Georgia. The Georgia Cancer Coallition is the official charity for the tour.
