Lake Placid, NY, home of the winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980. Great little place with good restaurants (don't go to Howard Johnson's - never again) and lots of outdoors. Cascade ski centre for Nordic ski-ing, Whiteface for downhill ski-ing and boarding and backcountry ski-ing in the Hgih Peaks of the Adirondack Park.

The company will be pretty good, too.

dates are open
put in and take out are open, but I would rather do the lower part now that all the crowds are gone for the most part.
maybe Milford as a put in...

June 22 -28(29) AT Hike Through SNP

I am planning on a N-S hike through SNP during the week of June 22-28(29). I will be starting somewhere around Front Royal and ending up at Afton Mountain or possibly even further south. (115 miles..give or take) (yes I have moved this trip up from August)

If anyone is interested in doing all or part of this please let me know. Himaintenance will be joinging the trip on the 27th, so we can be flexable with how far south we get. Also, I would not be opposed a SHORT side trip or 2, weather and time permitting. I don't plan on setting a death march type of pace, but plan on 15-20 miles per day depending on shelter situation etc...

There are several places to resupply on the way, so I plan on hiking light.
