The chickens ran toward me as I came in with their feed this morning. That's a first. They have always associated me with the unpleasantness of being picked up and moved to another place. Good news, much easier to chop off their heads this way:)

Twelve fence posts went up yesterday, today the wire will be attached, the little chicken door made and they will be free to ramble outside...within 200 sq feet. I would have made it bigger, but when they grow a little more (in another month), they'll be free range.

Melanie and Les are here and the breakfast discussion was whether or not I would shoot a bald eagle if it grabbed one of the chicks. My answer: Hell, yes! It's not often you can protect your flock, break a major law and be politically incorrect at the same time:) How could I pass it up?

Hey Mapleleaf, sell all your extra seedlings for $.25 each. People will flock to buy them and you'll recover your seed cost and maybe some of the water costs for this summer.

I bought some gorgeous baby perenials yesterday from my neighbor man. He's a cool old guy and every year he gives me a tour of his garden. This year he took me inside to show me his start up set-up. He uses beer in his grow trays, to make extra carbon monoxide for the seedlings. Don't worry, I made it out of his basement safely. ;)

Anyways, I got two lilac lupines and three belamcandas (blackberry lily). I'm pretty excited about the blackberry lily. Very beautiful flowers and daylily like foliage. I paid $5 and he threw in a handful of shamrock tubers.

My tomoatoes are poking up. Snow peas are about five inches tall. Radishes are looking about ready to be thinned. Raspberries are in full bloom.

On a sad note, fertilizer maker number two (Sunshine bunny), kicked the bucket yesterday in bunnybirth. We're all pretty sad. Not sure if we'll get another female. The babies kind of start to overrun the place.

Some people's hot
An' some people's cold
Some people's not very
Swift to behold

Some people do it
Some see right through it
Some wear pojamas
If only they knew it

The pojama people are boring me to pieces
They make me feel like I am wasting my time
They all got flannel up 'n down 'em
A little trap-door back aroun' 'em
An' some cozy little footies on their mind....

P'jama people!
Pojama people, people
Lawd, they make you sleepy
With the things they might say
P'jama people!
Pojama people, people
Mother Mary 'n Joseph, I wish they'd all go away

P'jama people!
It's a pojama people special
Take one home with you an' save a dollar today
P'jama people!
Pojama people, people!
Wrap 'em up
Roll 'em out
Get 'em out of my way

Three feet of snow combined with the proposed itinerary isn't going to work in our time frame. The trip I have outlined would be difficult in summer conditions. We'll need to re-evaluate the route. This ain't no wussy AT hike.

Also, it looks like we have a fourth but he's lacking in gear. spindle I'll call you tomorrow to see if we can manage to outfit him for this trip.
