Most people would remember Richard Feynman as the wacky old scientist on the Challenger Commission who demonstrated how an o-ring looses its elastic properties when sufficiently cooled ---- by dropping one in his glass of icewater.

He really was a Serious Nutjob in the best possible sense:   Samba drummer, Nobel Laureate, author, safecracker and Friend of Tuva.   Truly a wackjob for all seasons.
