Yes I did just tell the wild creatures of the night to SHUT UP!

we live near a large lake, so we have plenty of geese and ducks and swans and all kinds of other birds.

this was what happened last night..

2:10 AM

Mocking Bird starts
that gets the geese and ducks and swams going in the lake
that gets all 5 of my house birds going
that gets the outside stary cats going
that get my inside house cats going
that gets my dog going

This goes on till around 4:00 am

so please have mercey on us humans..

GO TO SLEEP ALREADY!!

Have you ever been woken up by a bear invading a loon's nest at 2am? Talk about noisy. I bet everything within a 5mile radius was woken up.

"As a man tramps the woods to the lake he knows he will find pines and lilies, blue herons and golden shiners, shadows on the rocks and the glint of light on the wavelets, just as they were in the summer of 1354, as they will be in 2054 and beyond. He can stand on a rock by the shore and be in a past he could not have known, in a future he will never see. He can be a part of time that was and time yet to come." William Chapman White

LOL...I have the "dog night chatter" in the country. And our 18 month old Chessie wants so bad to be involved. Normally if he starts barking I tell him to "get up here"he will crawl...technically he just walks up the bed he is so big...up on my legs and lay his big snoot on me and go back to sleep.

Course mapes I did have a time where I would have paid big money to get the children of the night noises. I lived in a Condo and my neighbor's bed backed up to the paper thin walls. He and his significant other would start drinking about 10 PM and really shift into "High Gear" about 2 AM. Finally one night I took my shoe, pounded on the wall and yelled,"Pound it to 'er" they stopped the nightly operation after that.

was feeling done in, couldn't win
I'd only ever kissed before.
I thought there's no use getting into heavy petting
It only leads to trouble and seat wetting...

Now all I want to know is how to go
I've tasted blood and I want more
I'll put up no resistance, I want to stay the distance
I've got an itch to scratch, I need assistance:

Toucha toucha toucha touch me, I wanna be dirty
Thrill me chill me fulfil me
Creature of the night.

Then if anything grows while you pose
I'll oil you up and rub you down
And that's just one small fraction of the main attraction
You need a friendly hand and I need action...

Toucha toucha toucha touch me, I wanna be dirty
Thrill me chill me fulfil me
Creature of the night.

I like to think that the sounds of nature really don't bother me, but memory suggests that not to be so. One night in '05 while on the AT, probably somewhere in Virginia, a Whipporwill decided to perch right over my tent and make his noise...all night long. Sometimes, while on a hike, you can get so overtired that sleep is nigh onto impossible. That was such a night. I heard that damn bird most of the night from dusk to dawn. Occasionally he would take a break, diabolically just long enough for me to hit the edge of sleep, then he'd start again. If I had a shotgun I would have joyfully blasted every whipporwill into extinction with a smile on my face.

I had an epiphany today. It was so good, I think I'll have another.

Whip-poor-wills are strange critters.   Being nocturnal and so well camouflaged, lots of people have never seen one, me included.   I ran across an image of one the other day (while looking for something else, of course).

Yesterday morning, I woke up to massive amounts of frog and toad spawn, all over the pond and stuck throughout the filtration. Yuck and yuck. A bunch of grey tree frogs were still going at it. I had to pick up and move a few couples. That was particularly nasty at one point. Oozy eggs and whatnot, all over my hand and stuck between my fingers.

Trying to remember but years ago I remember a case story about a blind man who was kidnapped. During his imprisonment his only contact was a mockingbird who nesting near his window. Each day and night he would listen to it.

When he was released the FBI was able to find the house by the differing calls of mockinbirds. PRETTY COOL

The old mine on St. Mary's River Wilderness in Virginia during whippoorwill season is not a good place to get a good night's sleep. The sound comes from all directions and is so shrill it literally pulses. It is the most bizarre thing I have encountered in the wilds. Luckily it quickly dawned on me that there was no way I was going to strangle 1,497,197 birds and the sound eventually put me to sleep. How a stinking tiny little bird can make all that racket I have no idea.

One, two, even three whippoorwills is neat. When they are all around and all going at once, let's just say you'd gladly trade for spring peepers.

We have met the enemy and he is us.
