Who's doing what this weekend?

I'm rock climbing this Saturday - it'll be my first time on trad gear. Going to do some pretty low moderate routes.

I can't wait.

Probably mtn bike on sunday.

Roam...you going to try leading?

I have a feeling I'm going to be laying down with my knee packed with ice and elevated....again. I'll know more in an hour or two.

leading? maybe, we'll see how it 'feels' that day. I'd like to give it a go, maybe we'll do the route a second time and I'll try to lead a pitch, knowing the moves and stances the second time around.

The climbing is addicting!

Hey! This place is looking good...

Saturday may or may not be a wine & dine a AT Thru-hiker day, complete with overnight. We'll see how his schedule goes.

There's a dayhike in the weekend somewhere. Either up Mount Tammany on the AT in NJ or the nature trails nearby with the kids.

Not definite yet.

dayhikes rock! When you can't get out overnite, you can at least feel like you got out and did something. Usually get to go somewhere you might otherwise not go.

I agree! Even if its very local, I just like getting out. Due to my work schedual, and having one car, I can't get out to backpack every weekend so I do the bast I can.....even if that makes some folks think I'm NOT a backpacker ;)

I'm doing my annual get together with old friends. Some of us see each other regularly, others no longer live in the PNW so are seen on a less frequent basis. Normally, 3 or 4 of us go on a 5 day death march backpacking trip. We've hit some beautiful spots over the past 10 or so years, but to encourage some of our non-backpacking buddies, we are planning something a little different this year. We're going to set up a nice, luxurious drive-in basecamp near Mt. Baker, then do dayhikes in the area. We're heading out Thursday morning to claim a primo spot, and plan to hike every day between Friday and Tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather! Trip report to follow.

So many freaks, so few circuses.

My daughters and I are going up to hike along the New River in West Virginia, camp overnight then whitewater raft back down to the car. Sort of a loop hike. We'll be meeting up with Randall and Chunmusic (and his daughter). Don't know much about them, but they are TTers so they must be fine people.

I worked on Boy Scout Camp Staff three summers from 14 to 16 - some of the best times of my life those three summers! It was a tremendous experience for me - I'm sure it is for him too. Have fun!

One of the best parts was being away from home with a bunch of other teens for 6 weeks straight thru the summer!

I'm going on a little overnighter this weekend, my son called me from College and asked if we could go backpacking for his Birthday, well... hmmmm OKAY!!!! Seems the boy is hooked, he wanted a new backpack for his Birthday and a trip to take it on...LOL!

After a little change in plans...we are headed to Mineral King (Sequoia NP)for the weekend. Looking at camping at Upper Monarch or Crystal Lake and try to summit Sawtooth Peak or maybe Mineral Peak. Sawtooth Pics and TR

So it will be My son Josh and his girlfriend Katie, my son Nathan, Exavius(Tekdude) and myself. Should be a fun weekend!

We stayed at Upper Monarch Lake...

White sandy beaches and clear Sierra water.

We bagged Sawtooth Peak (12,343') Sunday morning before packing up and heading home.

Nice.
Backpacking with the kids was fun.
Dayhiker brought out two of his and MDS brought his daughter. Chili and Nurse Goodbody came out too.

It rained a bit but we had tarps and it certainly didn't slow down the kids.

fun fun fun.

Had a great time in the New River Gorge backpacking and whitewater rafting. Randall could make it due to a medical issue, but I met Chinmusic and his daughter April. They are indeed good people. We had a blast, got dirty then cleaned up in the river.

I have a TR on the other, other site.

This weekend my family is leaving me with the dog. So I have the weekend to burn. Planning a PA mid-State car camp. It is listed on Thebackpacker.com trip page. It is a lounge around trip more than anything else. Anyone is welcome to join me. I expect it to be in the Bald Eagle State Forest. Family friendly. Bring the kids. If you are interested let me know and I'll work out the details with you. The State Forest sites are free. All that is needed is a permit which I will take care of getting.

weekend went great. the weather held out for us. Our son was ready to come home after we gave him a little to much TLC :(
but the following morning, he felt better and stayed. I am so proud of him to be able to stick it out. They are working them very hard but he looks good.
tree and myself went skinny dipping in the Upper Delaware River. poor fishes will never be the same haha

"As a man tramps the woods to the lake he knows he will find pines and lilies, blue herons and golden shiners, shadows on the rocks and the glint of light on the wavelets, just as they were in the summer of 1354, as they will be in 2054 and beyond. He can stand on a rock by the shore and be in a past he could not have known, in a future he will never see. He can be a part of time that was and time yet to come." William Chapman White
