Picked up a new trout rod 2 weeks ago, although it won't be going backpacking because it's a sold piece rod.

My tackle box isn't a box at all, but just a belt pouch with two fly boxes, extra leaders, tippet material, thermometer and an extra loop connector. Around my neck, I hang a necklace type gear holder that has line clippers, hemostats, leader straightener, fishing license and a fly drying pad. That's it and it's a simple setup that works for me.

I'm not sure and I'll see how the season goes. Rock Run is a put and take stocked stream so if I went out there I'd fish Pleasant stream.

I tied some Royal coachman and pheasant tail dry flies, but not enough. I really need to start tying more. I'm hoping to get out and fish next week.

Visit a local fly shop if you are interested in fly fishing. They can get you set up and some even give fly casting lessons.

It would be cool to catch a trout that big. I won't be catching one around here that size, at least not on the streams I fish.

Largest brook trout I ever saw was the one my buddy caught a few years ago. 21" and in the 3 - 4 pound range. He caught it on a worm and spinner.
A lot of the places I fish anything over 9" is considered a monster.

My biggest trout yet was a 19" brown trout caught on a bead head Hare's ear nymph in the mid 1990's. I released the fish so I don't know how much it weighed. I caught that trout on a bigger stream, but most creeks I fish are like you said, anything over 9" is a big fish.

The fishing was weak. I was hoping to see some kind of a mayfly hatch to fish, but it never happened. I caught a few trout on top with dry flies, but they were small and the rest never really were on the feed. The water was pretty cold so I didn't expect fast furious action. The fishing will pick up as the water warms and the insect activity increases.
Yesterday, I used commercial waders with neoprene because they are warmer. My homemade waders are for when the water is warmer.
I'll get back out during the week. Mid April can be shaky, but the best fishing is coming for May.

I think it'll pick up by next weekend. It's supposed to be in the 70's this week from Wednesday on. That should get some hatches going and the fish moving.

I'm heading out to go fly fishing this evening and the stream should be perfect. Last week they were a bit too high from the rain we had. I'm expecting to do a lot better than last week and expect to see mayflies out and the fish moving to get them.

I caught a bunch of trout last evening on a pheasant tail parachute. One of the best evenings I've had fishing in some time. Lots of Quill Gordons were out along with caddisflies and midges.

Didn't get out this weekend. Water is still real high from snow melt. The good news is the ponds and lakes are open in my area. Maybe this weekend I'll take out the canoe or kayak for some pond trolling.

The annual trip to Canada is still a few weeks away: pontoon floating the Agawa in Ontario. BIG brookies!

I don't fish with worms, but if you find a cool bird feather, I'll take it for tying flies or for making feather crafts.

Turkey, duck, goose and pheasant feathers work well for making trout flies. Almost any feather will do for making crafts. Sometimes I'll pick up whatever feathers I can find while I'm out hiking.

got turkey and hawk feathers, and will have more come summer camp. how about morning dove? hawks are always making kills in our yard. duck down too, the ducks are always fighting over food here even though there's plenty to go around.
