SUCCESS Crazygurl! Never quite understood why there are 3 of them in the Triangle and not one your way. Glad to know this cause most of the time I leave the east before the butt crack of dawn ..when I blow thru Raleigh everything is still sleeping including REI. But by the time I get to Asheville I can swing thru your store instead!

That'd be lots closer and less hassle than any of the Three in Atlanta (unless they've built one or two more!).

A day of
unending uphill,
switchback after switchback,
broken strap on your pack,
bent hiking pole,
blister on your big toe,
and drank all your water
Any of those days in the backcountry are better than a day at the office!!

Knoxville was going to get a Cabella's but they decided to put that plan on hold for at least a year in light of current economic forecasts.
I wish we would get an REI, but Asheville will be more convenient than Nashville for me.

One of the best things about having an REI nearby is the free shipping on online orders to the store. Saves me $8.99, at least, every order. =)

I heard roomers that an REI was supposed to open around here last year. I never heard anything sense. The closest store to me is Boston. How can an area with over 1 million people that sits between the Catskill Park and Adirondack Park not have an REI?
"As a man tramps the woods to the lake he knows he will find pines and lilies, blue herons and golden shiners, shadows on the rocks and the glint of light on the wavelets, just as they were in the summer of 1354, as they will be in 2054 and beyond. He can stand on a rock by the shore and be in a past he could not have known, in a future he will never see. He can be a part of time that was and time yet to come."

OH Man...I was with the Scouts in Ft Mill this weekend (Order of the Arrow event). We went into Pineville for some items....and saw MECCA...yes an REI.
Okay we were there to get a replacement for the popup that had passed on...and to get some water bottles and a couple of other "disposable" items.
Well we leave the Super Store (Sams) and head out to the road...and Lo and Behold the Lord of Hiking sent an idiot in a honda to cut me off. I had to Swerve (swear to God it was not intentional) into the turn in for REI....
Well when you get divine intervention I have been around enough to know...YOU GO WITH IT. And there RIGHT IN FRONT was a parking place. Went in and wandered a bit, bought some nice Crocks (very comfortable) got a couple of other little things. So as we walk up to the register my friend is worrying if he can remember his REI Number. I offered to let him use mine.....(his reply was wierd but it was something about Dinner I think...something like "Duck Stew" but I didn't catch it. (LOL).
Needless to say when the two REI bags come out at camp...they mysteriously multiplied over the weekend.

Kleet I got the OD green ones with the Orange heel strap. I tried them out with my socks around the camp...then wore them just as camp shoes that evening. I decided to get them when one of my friends explained that he got a pair because they are virtually weightless and they work great for a camp/shower shoe. He is an old friend and I have taken to trying out his suggestions for backpacking gear.
Kleet tell you what I decided, I figured I would try them on (Got em Friday) wore em around camp Friday night...discovered they are a lot easier to get into in the middle of the night when I can't reset the wee-wee alarm.
Then the next day I wore them for a while...and noticed they are nice lightweight shoe. Would I hike in them...NAH, but I will definitly pack them in my pack for camp.
