I purchased the 0 degree Storm King two years ago to battle the Adirondack winters and absolutely love the sleeping bag. My first down bag and if you're not familiar with the design, you slide a sleeping pad into the underside of the bag. Big Aggy bags also have excellent width, almost rectangular in design, for big guys who hate being squeezed into a mummy bag. And then there is the pillow pocket, so simple an idea it's genius! You stuff it with clothes and fleece for awesome comfort! I recently purchased the Big Agnes Bivy Sac and haven't tested it outside yet, but I do like the spaciousness and overhead hoop design, I figured it will also be a great overbag for sleeping in shelters in the winter.
Today I ordered the 40 degree Yampa for spring/summer camping (and I'm taking my 40 degree REI bag out back and putting some bullet holes in it!) The Yampa is a down bag and less than 2 pounds. I ordered it from campsaver.com for $119.21.
Yeah, I dig Big Agnes!!!

Nope... didn't like the Yampa. Sent it back and ordered the Fish Hawk instead. Alitle more weight, oh well. Unfortunately, the area REI doesn't carry these BIG AGNES SLEEPING BAGS to try out.

OK, question on the Big Agnes design. I like the idea of being able to slip the sleeping pad into a pocket on the back. Sounds great if you sleep on your back, but what if you are a side sleeper? Would you have any padding under you? I can't sleep on my back.

I had to think about that question for more than a few minutes (doh)! You're a roller, I get it. I guess you gotta add some slide to your roll?!? And if you're a roller, don't you just roll off the sleeping pad anyway or do you tie yourself in?

same here, that's one of the reasons I like the big agnes bags. No more rolling off the pad. Of course, its makes it harder to scrunch up and drag the sleeping bag up you legs like a tater sack. You have to slide down into it

I'm a side sleeper. You don't have to think about anything....just sleep. The pad stays in your bag, no rolling off of anything ever. And the bags are cut roomier so you don't get all tangled up. It's a perfect system.

anyone tried the Big Agnes air pad....the one you have to huff and puff and blow into or use the strange stuff sack compatible air bag thingy?
I went to REI the other day and the sleeping pad was very comfy and light and small! Anyone tried one yet and know how hard it is to blow it up etc.?

thermarest are heavy too, :)
The therma rest ridge rest Closed-cell foam pad is only 9 oz. In the summer when carrying a light bag and no heavy clothing I like the lighter pad

I had the BA insulated Air core (it has manmade insulation as opposed to down so you can fill it with out a "bellows bag).
Mine kept getting failures. I now have the Insul Mat (3/4) I will tell you the comfort of the insulated air pad is LIGHTYEARS above the best therma rest I ever tried.

I went from sleeping on the cold hard ground to a z rest 3/4 pad and thought it was heaven. Then, for winter camping, I graduated to a Tall Womens Prolite 4 and again...thought I was sleeping on fluffy pillow of sorts......
soooooooooo though I recognize that the BA air core thingy is comfy....I wouldn't know about its being lightyears more comfy than any thermarest. lol. My mattress at home is like a rock though, so what do I know. lol.
