Would anybody be interested in doing a hike in, say on a Friday afternoon and return back on a Saturday afternoon? Sometime in the near future. I hear it is a nice place to hike into, not really that far of a hike.

Supposing you are talking about Walls of Jericho on the Alabama-Tennessee border, I would be interested in a trip. That being said I am still nursing a torn ligament in my ankle and I am not sure when I will be able to get out again. It could be in as little as a few weeks or as much as a five months depending of if they have to do surgery again.

the Walls of Jericho is a nice little hike. Be careful as the trail gets very slick after a rain. I have seen a few folks slide down the side of a hill as you get near the end of the trail

I would be interested in a hike in on Saturday and out on Sunday.
It would be tough for me to get there to hike in on Friday.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes.

I'll watch this one. We're car camping at Deep Creek either the 2nd or 3rd weekend of June, so that may get in the way.
Any idea on trip plans? Do you still have to only camp in the main campground or do you do a more typical backpack? The time I was there we based out of the main campground and then explored each day. If I am able to make it I would likely come up Friday evening after work or early Sat morning and leave around lunch on Sun. I think it's about 2.5 hrs for me.

Friday May 30 - Sunday June 1. Who does that tentatively work for? (raises hand)
Who would want to be the trip organizer? I've never been there and I might have to bail if Audrey Marie decides to make an early debut.
also, where can I get a map?

You can order a topo map from TVA for that section of the moutain, it is call Hytop. But I also have one for the other section also, as I roam around quite alot. Its a pretty simple route, from the parking lot to the camping sites, it one way in and the same way out, from both trail heads. The route I am talking about is not either one of those.

Here's a map in pdf
[www.briartech.com]
I've been upstream of Hurricane Creek until it disappears underground. I'll see if I still have the map from when I went. It shows a place upstream called the Sinks. It's a hollow maybe 50 yards across with no drainage out. There is a rim all the way around the perimeter. Any rain that falls can't drain so you have these areas about 5' across where the ground has just collapsed. They almost look like mini sink holes

I found a USGS Quad of the area in TIF format along with a jpg of just the Jericho area. It does show the sinks area that I mentioned. The sinks themselves weren't that great but the journey too it was pretty nice.

We were sitting around, noticed the spot where we were didn't drain and figured it must be the sinks. The only description we were given was to go up stream until you get to the sinks. I asked what the sinks was and was told you'll know when you get there. All I know is we kept the compass bearing correct and kept going and going. When we got to a place that didn't drain we thought it must be it. The whole thing might have been bigger than I recall.
We may have crossed a wide saddle. I don't recall. I don't remember anything north of the creek going underground as being all that memorable. Seems like there was a neat area where the dry creekbed was on exposed stone.
I went back and looked through my photos and I didn't take any further north than the dry creekbed that is nothing but a boulder hop.

The sinks is a area that is where the creek goes underground, for a long distance, also all of the watershed debris collects at the sinks, it looks like a huge log yard at times. I have seen and walked on top of this jam pile of debris. It is a hour and a half walk or maybe two hour walk from the walls camping area, if I remember correctly. Also there is a cave that one can enter and go down to the underground stream. I have all of this on a gps, so you find it yourself that way if you wanted to.

We looked for the cave. The map I had showed one at the top of a drainage. We never found it.
That's pretty much like I remember what I was calling the sinks. On the map it looks bigger than what we saw, so I was skeptical until the guy confirmed it at the campfire. I do remember lots of debris and logs, but not huge log jams. We stopped for lunch just because we were tired. While cooking we started noticing the debris and places that were like mini sink holes then finally noticed that there was a ridge/rim around the entire perimeter. When we saw that water could get in but not out we figured we must be there. We had camped at the main campground and spent the better part of a day going up to this point and back to camp so the timeframe is about right.
It was sort of weird since the sinks was our destination. We stopped just because and it was sort of anti-climactic to realize we were there only after we started eating. It was a, "Ohhh, I guess we're there now," sort of thing.

I want to go May 31 - June 2. Those are days the restaurant is closed. That way I don't have to ask for time off. I'm pretty set on that weekend. I don't have as much wiggle room as I did at the pub. And with the baby coming, I have to take the time off as it comes.
