After a few months of being idle, I finally was able to ride this morning. I am not a person to exercise first thing in the morning. But all week long I was motivated to ride. I gave up my Saturday morning sleep in to go for a ride at 7 AM.

The thing that I hate most about doing a first-day-back type of ride, is that you know it is going to hurt. For me, it usually isn't my muscles, it's my lungs. After just a few miles I was thinking that I would never get back into good riding shape because my lungs had gotten so bad. But a few miles later, my body was over that initial warm up and I felt really good.

Next weekend is already out for me because of scheduling, but I really need to get back in a routine.

The first rides always make my butt sore, so I keep the mileage low for a few rides...

One thing that helped me feel comfortable on the bike this spring was riding an indoor trainer in the winter. I know it's very boring, but you don't need to stay on trainer that long to get prepared. I rode a few times per week and stayed on for between 30 and 40 minutes each time.
